Here is an example of an entire organ displaying atrophy. The testis at the right has undergone atrophy and is much smaller than the normal testis at the left.
Unilateral testicular atrophy is most likely caused by cryptorchidism - an undescended testis that did not fully develop. Mumps infection in adults may affect one testis more than the other.
